About The Coase Foundation

The Coase Foundation focuses on the economic policies that affect the modern corporation. It functions as a platform for the dissemination of policy research, as a secretariat for the exchange of ideas, and as a facilitator of research efforts. The Foundation's philosophy is rooted in a belief in the inherent power of economic analysis, in the power of empiricism, and in the primacy of market forces.

The Coase Foundation is a nonpartisan organization that differentiates itself from "think tanks" through its focus on research rather than advocacy or validation of existing viewpoints. The Foundation is organized around distinguished academics whose professional eminence and financial independence grant them the freedom to speak their minds. These scholars share the goal of producing rigorous economic analysis that will have a practical impact in Washington and other centers of government.

The Coase Foundation seeks to shape the course of intellectual debate over important, emerging issues in antitrust, corporate governance, innovation and intellectual property, regulation, environmental policy, and related areas of law and economics. The Foundation underwrites the Journal of Competition Law & Economics, a peer-reviewed journal published by the Oxford University Press. The Foundation intends to endow and award an annual Coase Prize in Law & Economics to recognize scholarship that has applied economics to legal problems in a way that concretely improves public policy.
